Democracy:
the Flaw
By Caspar de Rijk, Ph E.
Democracy has given us inflation and income tax, so
what have we learned from our experience?
A democracy run by scrupelous people or politicians, corporations* which
are solely responsible for the bottomline i.e. or obsessed with money and
profit ideas evidently results in a democratic society obsessed with
money.
Democracy is an idea, indeed a better idea than
many other political or organizational alternatives. Yet we do not find
democracy in the business world. Why is it not used there if it is such a
succesful model? Think about it.
Is it, as many executives say that you never get
anything done if a business were run by democratic principle. Examine history
carefully and you may come to the same conclusion as I did. The only flaw in
the ideal of democracy is the hidden aspect of mind control, dishonesty and
propaganda, misleading others by spreading false data. There are no safeguards
built into the democratic concept. This means in practice anno 2009 that
democracy has been caught up by the criminals who intend to use it to usurp
power and control by covert means. We have seen how this works organizations
like local party politics as well as outfits like NSA, CIA, 9/11 cabals
etc. All this happened in the democratic
Western world!
Democracy by
dictionary means:
1.
Government by the people exercised either directly
or through elected representatives.
2.
A political or social unit that has such a
government.
3.
The common people, considered as the primary source
of political power.
4.
Majority rule.
5.
The principles of social equality and respect for
the individual within a community.
[French démocratie, from Late Latin
dēmocratia, from Greek dēmokratiā: dēmos, people + -kratiā,
-cracy.]
There is nothing intrinsically wrong with any of
these definitions. What is wrong is not expressed. Something that is not there
is not easily seen.
So what is the omission? Let’s take definition #1
The full definition which would work is “A government by the people for all the
people” Note the omission of “…for all the people”.
Steve K. Moyer** has covered this beautifully in
his conception of the Spiritual Economy in which he points out what we need is
applied virtues.
Definition # 4 Majority Rule is probably the worst
culprit and should have been unanymous support or agreement in other words: consensus.
Let’s look at what is really consensus.
1.
An opinion or position reached by a group as a
whole
2.
General agreement or accord: government by
consensus.
[Latin cōnsēnsus, from past participle of
cōnsentīre, to agree]
So here we are to reach an agreement that would be
agreeable to all people, which many say is impossible. And they are right. If
one has fixed ideas such as for example:
“ wars are inevitable”, “taxation always increases”, “money is all” or “
I have to fight for my survival”, “there exists only one truth, mine!”, it is
virtually impossible to achieve actual consensus. There is much more to this but that is a
subject in itself i.e. reality (agreement) vs truth.
The level of smartness and intelligence required to
make proposals that are sound for ALL PEOPLE is considerable. Why wasn’t it
done? One reason is that mankind was not really in touch and in-communication
internally lots of lying go-betweens that would profit from a few lies to gain
an advantage.
Imagine an American president being paid by the oil
industry, doing all to defend its interests and of course lacking virtues,
would not see anything wrong with killing a few to obtain righteous compliance
– all this while praying to God in Sunday Services. It has been said that the
most important zone of ethical behaviour is the top hierarchy and it is kinda
obvious, witness our various Enrons and other present time evidence like the
irresponsible bailout lies by politicians.
In other words a democracy without virtues - and we
may include intelligence as a virtue as well – results in the power of the
people being used for the benefit of the few or even a majority of the people
(defined as 51%) and often to the
detriment of the other half or lesser minorities. How intelligent a proposal
must be to be acceptable to mankind as a whole, just think of that.
So I propose a new and more precise definition of
democracy as follows:
Democracy
is the social order and form of ‘political’ organization that uses the power of
the people for the good of all the
people.
In other words it would be wise for you as an
individual to define democracy as a consensus democracy. Unless you are member
of a political party (limited viewpoint and responsibility), you would also do
so, I hope.
